The following clinical trials are currently enrolling new patients:

ADULTS
 
Generalized anxiety disorder:
  • If you have generalized anxiety disorder, you may be able to participate in a clinical research study of an investigational drug conducted at The Ohio State University Department of Psychiatry.  All qualified participants may receive investigational drug or placebo and care at no cost and may receive some compensation for their time.  For more information, call 614-293-7109 or email us at clinicaltrials@osumc.edu.  Click here for our flier.
     
Depression
 

The goal of this study is to use psychological and physical assessments to help predict how a patient may respond to antidepressants. You may qualify to participate if you are:

  • Age 18-65
  • Currently depressed
  • Willing to receive one of three FDA-approved antidepressants

Participation involves 2 days of assessments, and 8 follow-up web-based questionnaires over 12 months.
Participants will receive free evaluation and some compensation for their time.

If you are currently suffering from depression, you may qualify to participate in a clinical research study of an investigational medication. To qualify, you must be 18 to 65 year old, currently depressed, and meet other eligibility criteria. Study-related exams and medication maybe provided to qualified participants at no cost. Compensation may be provided for time and travel. Depression Study: Add-on treatment for depression:
 

Do you take antidepressants but still have symptoms of depression? 
 

  • The Department of Psychiatry is enrolling adults in a clinical research study of an investigational medication as a potential add-on treatment to anti-depressants.  Participants will receive study-related care at no cost and receive some compensation for their time.   • The Department of Psychiatry is enrolling adults in a clinical research study evaluating an investigational drug added-on to an antidepressant in patients who are depressed. The Beating the Blues Study on Adult Depression


The goal of this study is to test the effectiveness of an online therapy for depression called “Beating the Blues,” and to use psychological and physical assessments to predict how well people respond to this treatment.

You may be eligible for this study if:

  • You are an adult age 18+
  • You are currently suffering from depression
  • You have a computer with an internet connection

Study participants will start Beating the Blues right away or be asked to wait for 8 weeks before starting. Throughout the study, which will take between 12 to 20 weeks, you will complete interviews, web-based questionnaires, and experimental tasks. You will receive the treatment for free and be paid for completing the assessments.

CHILDREN - TEENS
 
Mood Disorder - Depression
 
  • The Omega -3 and Therapy Studies for Childhood (OATS-Depression) and Bipolar-Not Otherwise Specified (OATS-BIPOLAR)

    Do you have a child who is often sad, angry, or has frequent mood swings?  Do you suspect or know they have a Mood Disorder (Depression or Bipolar)?  We are currently accepting children ages 7-14 for a 12-week study of two non-medical treatments for bipolar mood disorders.  Children do not need to be previously diagnosed.

    The purpose of this study is to test whether or not Omega-3 dietary supplementation and/or individual-family psychoeducational psychotherapy (IF-PEP) will improve functioning in children with Depression or Bipolar-Not Otherwise Specified, or cyclothymia.

  • Research Study for Teens with Depression

    The OSU Department of Psychiatry is enrolling children ages 12-17 in a clinical research study of an investigational drug for the treatment of depression.  Participants will receive investigational drug or placebo (a sugar pill) and study-related care at no cost and may receive some compensation for time and travel.
