Clinical Experiences

The internship is composed of 4 rotations each of which is 6 months in duration. In addition to these rotations, there are electives that vary in their time commitment that the intern may opt to take part in providing they are demonstrating competency in their primary rotations.  The elective time permits an intern to provide continuity of care to patients who were seen during a hospital stay and who are now requiring outpatient follow-up. Elective also are designed to add breadth to an intern’s training experiences.

6-month Rotations

In addition to the above electives, some experiences (e.g., consultation liaison psychiatry, groups) are available for brief periods. Note that electives are not by necessity a one year time commitment. In most cases, the duration of the rotation can be negotiated with the faculty member supervising the experience.

An example of an intern’s training schedule would look as follows:

Transplant Psychology

Cardiac Psychology

Women’s Health

Outpatient Psychiatry

Electives (C & L – 2 mos; ADHD group – 3 mos, Clinical research)
