We believe in treating the whole patient, providing care plans that address the interconnectivity of mental and physical health. This approach gives every individual the support and respect they deserve with the proven, comprehensive treatments needed for optimal health. At the same time, we strive to challenge, engage and support our clinicians, researchers and staff so that their professional growth can fuel even more progress.

In order to accomplish this, our department takes a deliberate approach to three key areas: education, research and clinical care.

Over 100 Years of Innovation

Since 1916, when George Harding II, MD, first opened the Indianola Rest Home on 18th Avenue in Columbus with six patients, Ohio State has been committed to creating a national model for mental health treatment and care for patients with behavioral and neurological illnesses. Today, Harding Hospital is one of seven hospitals within the medical center. We honored our history in 2016 with a special century celebration. See key events from our past.
